Night Evening Events 2010-2011
Last updated on 09/11/10 [Lakes-O Front Page]
West Cumberland Orienteering Club will be staging a series of evening events, on Thursday evenings. The summer events are informal events with three courses. You are welcome to turn up and have a go. Details of parking and the venue can always be found by ringing the club answerphone.... 01768 895539 in the couple of days leading up to each Thursday.
Two events at the end of April are 10km road events in Cockermouth and Keswick. See details of the events elsewhere.
Often the parking is scattered and quite limited. Please park to make best use of the spaces that are available. Registration and hire of ecards will be from a car in the car parking area..... probably where the huddle of people are standing!!! The events are very informal, so just ask anyone where things are if you are new to the sport. You are more than welcome to turn up and try the courses on offer.... someone will be pleased to explain the format and help you through the pre-start formalities. The maps are overprinted with the course usually on waterproof paper, and will be found at the start. Those doing the Easy/Starter course can get their map from registration and have a good look at the course before setting out.
Results and the series league can be found via this link with the club answerphone giving details of parking etc in the days before the event. Answerphone 01768 895539
Night Event Series
Between November 4 and March 2011 there will be a series of Night events. Starts will be earlyish, starting from 6.15pm. You will need a torch for these events, but they will provide the ultimate in navigational challenges!
The areas at the beginning of the series will be on relatively easy areas to give you a chance to get into the style of orienteering. There will be a novice or short/easy course available at the events up to Christmas, where the navigation is easier.
So long as the weather is kind these events are great fun and give you a great sense of achievement when you complete the course, particularly in a fast time.
